| Will the training be for you?
You and several others? Your entire team? |
| Will the training be at your
location? Or in a public classroom? |
| Will each student have a computer?
Hands-on? Or will it be 'Lecture-Style' -
Hands-off? |
| During the work day? Or
earlier/later to reduce impact on the working day?
Or evening? Weekend? |

Training Planning Points
- How many
people will be participating?
More than 10 participants leads to loss of individual
attention, while fewer than 2-3 may not be cost-effective.
Since we charge by the hour, not by the student, you’re able to
get everyone trained for one flat rate.
- Are they all
at roughly the same experience level? Does it make sense to
have them in the same class?
When the range of experience using the software is too broad,
it becomes difficult to ‘teach to the mid-point’, with the
result that experienced users get bored and novices overwhelmed.
- Do you have a
training room / conference room in your facility that can handle
the number of people who would participate?
How many can fit comfortably into the designated training
room?
- Would people
be isolated from disruptions, answering phone calls, being
pulled away for other reasons?
The surest way to waste valuable training dollars is to have
participants constantly pulled out or interrupted by outside
issues.
- Is there a
flat, light colored wall at least 6’ across against which we can
project the computer screen image?
If not, we can bring a large projection screen (80” diagonal)
that sits on the floor and telescopes upwards – is there
sufficient room to fit such a screen? We always bring our
projector at no additional charge.
- Are there
sufficient power outlet receptacles in the room for everyone?
We can bring our ‘kit bag’ that includes 4 extension cords
and 4 outlet strips, at no charge.
- Is there a
network connection into that room?
We can also bring a network switch to connect up to 8
computers to that outlet.
- Would each
user have a desktop or laptop computer for the class (hands-on)
or would it be more of a lecture style (hands-off)
We can provide up to 4 laptop computers, at a daily rental
rate of $50.00 per computer, regardless of the duration in
hours.
- Would workday
training adversely impact the office? Should you consider later
in the day, starting at 3pm? 4pm? Saturday?
We never charge additional for offset hours
(early-morning/late-afternoon or weekend)
- How many
hours are appropriate?
Most training organizations talk about ‘full-day’ training,
but it’s actually much less - 5½ hours (9am to, 12noon, 1pm to
4pm, 2 x 15 minute breaks – hardly a ‘full day’! We recommend
3-4 hours of learning – anything less would hardly be worth the
effort, and anything more would result in ‘information overload’
- Do I need
courseware?
We can provide courseware at the cost of $20.00 per
courseware manual, and you generally would buy 1 per attendee,
maybe even more for those that can’t attend.
