ACT! 2010 System Requirements

Tuesday, 06 October 2009 19:58

Sage says that ACT! requires a minimum of 512MBytes of memory.  That's like saying your car requires a minimum of a tablespoon of gas - yes, that's technically true, but you certainly won't get very far.

I used to say that ACT! really needs 1GByte of memory to feel 'responsive'.  But that was ACT! 2009 and earlier.  ACT! 2010 really needs 2GBytes of memory to feel responsive, and that's on Windows XP Pro.  If you're running Vista, better figure on 3-4GBytes of memory.  The good news is "Memory is cheap" - you may have to discard any existing memory in your computer to free-up some slots, but you'll still be better off with more memory - buy as much as your computer can handle - it's the cheapest, quickest fix for slow performance.

To check memory slots, I prefer not to get down on my hands and knees with tools and a flashlight to take the computer covers off and peer inside - I simply go to http://www.crucial.com and choose 'SCAN MY SYSTEM' to run their memory analyzer - it tells me how many slots in total, how many in use and what my options are to upgrade - and I can even order my memory right there.
